Karl- Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of Bayern Munich, heaps praise on Manuel Neuer.

Bayern Munich sealed the signing of Alexander Nubel from Schalke at the start of January. The German goalkeeper will arrive in Bavaria at the end of the season when his contract at Schalke in summer.

After confirmation of Nubel’s signing, Manuel Neuer has become a topic for discussion in Germany. Neuer has been number one goalkeeper for Die Roten this decade, but Nubel’s arrival may reduce his game time.

Nubel’s agent has already confirmed that the 22-year-old goalkeeper will get a decent amount of game time next season. Meanwhile, Neuer doesn’t want to see his playing time reduced as he remains hungry to achieve success with club and country.

Neuer has already been linked with a move to Juventus. Bayern remains hopeful about extending his contract. Speaking to TZ (via Sky Sports), Rummenigge admitted that Neuer is the best German goalkeeper he has seen. The club’s CEO also said that Die Roten wants to hand Neuer a new contract.

"“I have seen everyone: Sepp Maier, Oliver Kahn – and now Manu. I have the greatest respect for Sepp and Oli, they were absolutely world-class. But what Manuel did was another thing: he took the goalkeeper game to a new level. Manu is the best goalkeeper the world has ever had.”“We know what we have in him. We do not need to have a discussion about this. But please understand that we first have to have conversations with players and consultants.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Neuer will be the first choice goalkeeper for Bayern next season. Die Roten needs to find an agreement with him regarding a new contract and convince him that some share of games will go to Nubel. The club should ideally give the domestic cup games and a quarter of Bundesliga games to Nubel next season.

If Neuer refuses to sign a deal, then Bayern should allow him to see out his contract. His current deal is set to expire in 2021. By that time, Nubel will be ready to take over. It is a win-win situation for Bayern. The move to bring Nubel was a no brainer. It also shows that Die Roten has learned from mistakes they committed while replacing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Moreover, Bayern needs to have optimum competition in every position. They currently have numerous options across the pitch, but in the goalkeeping department, Neuer is a clear favourite. Nubel’s presence will keep Neuer on toes and will get the best out of both goalkeepers.

Barcelona also had a similar situation for a few seasons now where top goalkeepers were given a fixed share of game time. It will be interesting to see whether Nubel also remains patient or forces a loan move at this time next year. Bayern has the perfect vision for the goalkeeping department, but they will need the right execution to keep all the parties happy.
