Amid rumors of a return to Real Madrid, James Rodriguez insisted that he is only thinking about Bayern Munich, where he will be for the rest of the season.

The changes at Bayern Munich have already begun, as the club prepares to dip their toes in the upcoming transfer windows. The Bavarians will have to make some big decisions on the future of several players at the end of the season. James Rodriguez is one of the few players whose future at the club is in doubt.

There have been numerous reports linking the Colombian midfielder with a return to Real Madrid or a move to a few different European clubs. Speaking recently with AS James admitted that he is not thinking too much about his future right now. The on-loan midfielder insisted he will analyze things at the end of the season, denying reports that he is unhappy with Niko Kovac.

"“My present is with Bayern Munich, I have a contract with them until June. I’m fine there, I’m calm. In June we will see what happens, but right now I am only thinking about Bayern.“Bayern has a healthy squad that is good together, and there is no issue at all with Kovac.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

The Colombian international joined Bayern Munich in 2017 on a two-year loan spell. Die Roten have the option to make this move permanent at the end of this season for a fixed fee. This decision looked a formality after James starred for the club in the second half of last season. He was contributing in the final third nearly every game after Jupp Heynckes handed him an extended run in the starting XI.

However, things have taken an ugly turn for James this season. The Colombian struggled with fitness at the start of the season, which didn’t allow him regular minutes on the pitch. Kovac’s rotation policy has also reportedly unsettled James at the club this season. He reportedly wants to hold talks with the club hierarchy in the upcoming winter break to seek assurances about his future at Bayern.

The Bavarians, meanwhile, are in no rush to make a decision about the possible transfer. There are strong reports in Germany suggesting that they are unlikely to make this deal permanent, but James has always insisted that he is happy in Munich. If Bayern continue to delay their decision, the Colombian may grow weary and begin to seek opportunities for a transfer.

The Colombian is currently recovering from a knee injury he suffered a month ago. Bayern need James to be at his best in order to win any trophies this season. He made a huge difference in the Champions League for Bayern last season. Kovac needs to find a way to keep this transfer talk away from James and extract the best out of him in the next six months.
