The US international who earned a spot in Bayern Munich’s first team says he has “nothing to lose” when it comes to playing at the highest levels.

Julian Green is playing for Bayern Munich’s first team, and he is not shying away from the challenge.  While he was disappointed he was not called to action in Bayern Munich’s 6-0 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga opener, the 21 year old German-American has not given up hope.

After strong showings in international friendlies like the International Champions Cup this summer in the United States, Green is ready to prove to the world that he can be an effective and productive striker in the Bundesliga.  He notably notched a hat trick in 35 minutes against Inter Milan in July, which was one of his more important and notable performances he has had in the last two years for Bayern Munich.

Green has not had the best go of things since 2014.  After a notable goal in Round of 16 in the 2014 World Cup for the United States men’s national team, he has not been particularly productive for either his country or his club.  Since 2014, he has played in only three matches with the US and played in only five Bundesliga matches. The Bundesliga matches he appeared in were not even for Bayern Munich, they were during his loan at Hamburg in the 2014-2015 season.

Now that he has secured a spot with Bayern Munich’s first team, he has a real opportunity to prove to the rest of the world that he can be a world class striker that can contribute to the play of the best team in Germany.  It is critical for him to get some playing time so he has the opportunity to prove himself, but that might be difficult if he cannot even get into the lineup when Bayern Munich is winning by a considerable margin.

It would be great to see him play more minutes and to have considerable success this season, and not just for Bayern Munich.  He was not called up to the US men’s national team in their latest round of World Cup Qualifying, but strong club performances could catapult him into the roster for later World Cup Qualifiers and even the 2018 World Cup.
