Champions League: Bayern Munich Reveals 2016-17 Squad
Bayern Munich revealed their squad for this season’s UEFA Champions League, and it’s not particularly surprising.
When Bayern Munich revealed their 2016-17 roster, it was not particularly surprising to see who ended up making the squad. Big names like Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, Robert Lewandowski, Douglas Costa and Jerome Boateng all appear on the roster. No big star did not make it, and the only small surprise in the roster announcement comes toward the bottom of the roster.
Niklas Dorsch, Marco Friedl, Fabian Benko, Julian Green, Milos Pantovic, Felix Götze, Meritan Shabani, and Enrico Caruso were all named to the Bayern Munich squad as part of List B. List B is for players born January 1, 1995 or later that have been with the club for any uninterrupted 2 year period since he turned 15.
Clubs can name as many players to List B as they want, so Bayern Munich will be able to bring in some good young backup to their Champions League matches. These players may provide critical backup to the regular faces of Bayern Munich, especially as they fatigue and battle injury over the season.
There are only 2 additions to the roster that seem a little weird: Nicolas Feldhahn and Timothy Tillman. Because they do not qualify for List B, they are both named to the full squad. Nicolas Feldhahn is too old (born in 1986) and Timothy Tillman has not spent 2 uninterrupted years with the club yet.
